{"id":99,"date":"2018-10-24T03:36:49","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T03:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevillagechurch.ca\/wp3\/?page_id=99"},"modified":"2018-10-24T04:05:51","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T04:05:51","slug":"our-core-values","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.thevillagechurch.ca\/wp3\/about\/our-core-values\/","title":{"rendered":"Core Values"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our core values identify what is most important to us as we follow Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Passion for God<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first priority is to know God through Jesus Christ and to love God with our whole life.&nbsp;<em>\u201cNever be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>Romans 12:11<em>&nbsp;\u201cAs the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.&nbsp; My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>(Psalm 42:1.,2)&nbsp;<em>\u201cLove the Lord Your God&nbsp;with all you heart, with all your soul, and&nbsp;with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;(Matthew 22:37, 38)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;Transformation for All<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We are eager to share the Good News of Jesus Christ because it opens the door for all to experience the transforming love and power of God.&nbsp; Jesus\u2019 invitation is for everyone.&nbsp;<em>\u201cThen He said to His disciples, \u2018The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.&nbsp; Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.&#8217;\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>(Matthew 9:37, 38)&nbsp;<em>\u201cThen Jesus came to them and said, \u2018All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.&nbsp; Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.&nbsp; And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.&#8217;\u201d<\/em>&nbsp; (Matthew 28:18-20)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;Love for Neighbours<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In a world where many are disadvantaged, we intentionally come alongside the hurting and the marginalized at home and abroad, sharing help and hope.&nbsp;<em>\u201cLearn to do right; seek justice.&nbsp; Defend the oppressed.&nbsp; Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;(Isaiah 1:17)&nbsp;<em>\u201cAnd what does the Lord require of you?&nbsp; To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;(Micah 6:8)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. &nbsp;God\u2019s Word for Direction<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bible, the inspired Word of God, is our ultimate authority for discerning God\u2019s will for our lives or for living a life that pleases God and is ultimately best for us.&nbsp;<em>\u201cAll scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.\u201d &nbsp;<\/em>(2 Timothy 3:16,17)&nbsp;<em>\u201cKeep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.&nbsp; Then you will be prosperous and successful.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;(Joshua 1:8)&nbsp;<em>\u201cDo your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;(2 Timothy 2:15)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unity in Diversity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The United Brethren Church in Canada seeks the middle ground on issues where equally devout Christians have understood God\u2019s Word differently.&nbsp; We reach out to partner with all who are centred upon Jesus Christ.&nbsp; We stand firm on Biblical absolutes but allow freedom where the Bible allows it and seek to maintain unity when disagreements arise.&nbsp; God has made each of us unique, with varied talents, gifts, abilities, background, heritage and even interpretations of spiritual truth.
